DENMARK

12/10/2023

Day 1 - 11th July 2023
After a nice few days staying with family in Stafford, England it was time to head south towards Dover to catch the ferry to France.
I’m getting the bike ready for a 3-month Scandinavia and Morocco trip.
I replaced the oil, filter, rear brake pads and checked over the bike thoroughly at my brother's place to make sure all was well.
I had new 50/ 50 tyres fitted in London (nightmare traffic due to roadworks). The tyres I had fitted are the Motoz Tractionator GPS's. They are similar to the Heidenau Scout K60's except the rear tyre is more contoured. They are supposed to be hard wearing and should more than last the entire trip. While they had the tyres off they noticed the valves in the inner tubes were rusty, so I had the tubes replaced.
I’m camping in Kingdsdown, Kent which is not far from the Dover Ferry port, which is where I’m heading tomorrow.
I watched a Spitfire do aerial acrobatics above the camp this evening.
That Merlin engine sounded great while doing a victory roll, the sound and the look of the Spitfire is a work of art.

Day 2 - 12th July 2023
It was a leisurely ride down to Dover port where I met up with Vince, a fellow Tiger rider. We crossed the channel from Dover to Dunkirk on a grey day. The sailing was calm.
We passed through France, Belgium, The Netherlands on mainly straight motorways and set up camp in Germany.

Day 3 - 13th July 2023
We left Eyll and headed to Lubeck along motorways.
Near the end of the day, we were riding in the rain with lots of road spray, not the most pleasant or safe conditions. The countryside is now farmland and trees.
We ventured off the motorways at the end of the day passing through some quaint villages, one of the houses even had a thatched roof. Nice to see an English styled house in Germany.
Tomorrow we are heading to Denmark.

Day 4 - 14th July 2023
Today we left Lubeck in Germany and headed to Denmark.
On the way we visited the Viking ship museum in Roskilde, Denmark. The Viking ships date back to the 11th century. The ships were found in a peat bog and that’s how they survived.
They also have recreations of the 11th century ships.
From there we had a quick look at Copenhagen before heading to my friend Ole’s house.
I met Ole when he was starting his around the world motorcycle ride in Auckland.
He gave us a great welcome with BBQ, drinks and a bed for the night.
Lots of good banter and a very enjoyable night. Thanks, Ole!!
